It was a couple months ago in February when the temperature hit 70 degrees. Yay! It was my chance to get the shot I’d been obsessed with since the summer. But it didn’t turn out quite like I expected. Maybe this has happened to you, too.

Let me back up…

I was on a Kids Ride Club ride in August, passing through Brooklyn Bridge park. We rounded a bend a little bit passed the old warehouses. We were ambling along on the slower side so I had time to sight-see. I glanced to the right and OMG: right before my eyes an amazing view of Manhattan I never noticed before suddenly appeared.

“Nat,” I said excitedly to my trusty biz partner and fellow cyclist, “we just passed the most amazing view of Manhattan. It has these great old pier pylons sticking up, and the skyscrapers in the background. It’s so cool. I have to come back. Maybe I’ll even do B&W.”

(No, not this. Yes, it’s B&W. I call this photo THE WALL.)

I couldn’t wait. This wasn’t the usual view. It was going to be my very personal, individual, special never-before-seen photo.

Well before we knew it, it was  September with all the Jewish holidays getting in the way and then it got cold and I was remembering freezing my fingers off at a previous shoots on the East River so I put it aside.

Then … February 5, 2019. Dead middle of winter. Warm front!

Not just any ordinary winter warm front when we lose our hats because it’s 50. Bright and sunny, walking out in only a long sleeve shirt and a down vest warm (because I don’t care what the temp is, it just doesn’t feel right walking around in a tee shirt in February. So I was sweating.)

We packed up and left to catch the height of the heat  – and also the afternoon light. When we got to the park, we were walking in the opposite direction of the August ride and I was afraid I might not recognize the view that was burned in my brain. We stopped a few times to get other shots. I was nervous about getting there too late and kept sending Nat evil looks to hurry up.

Then, I spotted the pylons in the distance. I ran ahead along the path and started to descend closer to the water

OH NO!!!!! What the @#$@$%^$# are all those people doing there? With tripods? Wait a minute, that guy has TWO cameras, one on a gorilla pod on the rocks!!!! Hey … I invented this shot!!!!!
